Beaches of the Amalfi Coast
Counting all beaches (even the little ones) from the east to west along the coast, there are exactly 100. For obvious reasons, we won’t go into great detail about all of the beaches, but rather where you can find the bus and easily reach one. Here is some information on the most fascinating and original beaches that might be of interest to tourists. All of the main beaches to visit are noted on the map.
In general, the beaches are pebbled and stony and the sea is deep. Moreover, there are also sandy beaches about which you will find detailed information below. In compliance with the law, every beach has a ‘free’ section; it is therefore not obligatory to hire a deck chair, which would cost no less than €8 (€20 with a beach umbrella).
Important: on the majority of the beaches, the sun sets behind the Bay of Sorrento after 3pm. For this reason, it is better to go to the seaside in the morning. Amalfi, Maiori, Vietri sul Mare and Praiano are the exceptions though, as the sun is visible for longer from these towns. On the beaches of Praiano, you can even see the sunset, while on others, you can’t.
Famous beaches of the Amalfi Coast
The most popular beaches can be found at the following towns:
Positano beaches
Spiaggia Grande is the main beach in Positano, meaning it can be very crowded. We would recommend walking along the coast a little to find the more tranquil beach of Fornillo (easily reachable) and Arienzo (descending 300 steps).
Amalfi beaches
Amalfi boasts a very large beach, but most part of it is crowded with tourists. During the summer period you will only ever find a place to set out your things early on a morning. However, not far away from the town there are a large number of stunning beaches that are not very well known. You can get to them by taking a boat from Amalfi that costs 5 euros. The boat’s route is indicated on the map.
Maiori beach
Here, you will find the Amalfi Coast’s sandiest beach. It is very popular among families with children and is considered one of the best on the coast.
Vietri sul Mare beach
Very similar to the beach at Maiori. The main advantage is that this beach has parking where you can relatively easily find a place to park. Parking costs 1 euro per hour (2 euros per hour in August).
Ideal beaches for a holiday with children (sandy beaches)
All of the sandy beaches are ideal for a holiday with children. These are the beaches at Maiori, Amalfi and Vietri. They are all described under the section above.
Romantic beaches
Ask any tourist which was the best beach along the Amalfi Coast for romance and there will only be one answer: the Fiordo di Furore beach. It is a unique place because of its beauty. Nestled between Praiano and Conca dei Marini, this beach is reachable by bus.
